Wallace Bachman joined United Way of New York City in June 2015 after two years working as a consultant to the CEO and executive leadership team. In his current role, he is responsible for overseeing the work of UWNYC’s Human Capital & Facilities department, including compensation and benefits, talent management, staffing, culture and change management, and facilities.
He began his career with Hay McBer in Boston while still a doctoral candidate in psychology and social relations at Harvard University. There he learned competency modeling and the business of leadership and organizational development. He later joined a client organization, where he was responsible for the management development of 12,000 first-level managers across all functions in North America. In 2001, Bachman moved to NYC as a consultant. He has worked with senior executives in health care, financial services, manufacturing, technology, and consumer products.
In 2012, Wallace transitioned from corporate consulting to an intense focus on the needs of the nonprofit and education sectors. In addition to United Way of New York City, he has worked with Cornell Tech, Eagle Academy Foundation, and the Hetrick Martin Institute.
He has held officer positions on nonprofit boards and served for two years as Executive Director of the Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN/Boston).
Wallace is a member of the New York chapter of the International Coach Federation and is certified in the use of several assessment and development instruments, including Profilor, Benchmarks, Skillscope, SYMLOG, and the MBTI.
