The Young Leaders Council brings the passion and philanthropic power of young professionals together to transform New York City. The YLC provides robust opportunities to connect community-driven 20- and 30-somethings who’re eager to lead their peers, fundraise and advocate on behalf of low-income New Yorkers.

YLC Members enjoy exclusive benefits depending on membership level. Benefits include but aren’t limited to:

  • Fun social opportunities with savvy young philanthropists
  • Invitations to exclusive events that feature prominent local leaders
  • On-the-ground volunteerism that promotes long-term community change
  • Illuminating panel discussions and briefings on contemporary social issues

Ways to Get Involved

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP – $100
All YLC members gain access to select professional development and social events and all volunteer opportunities.

PREFERRED MEMBERSHIP – $250
As a preferred member, you get the benefits of general membership, plus you're eligble to apply for a position on one of our YLC Subcommittees including  Events + Fundraising, Community Engagement, and Membership + Markenting.

EXECUTIVE MEMBERSHIP – $1,000
Our top-level membership includes complimentary tickets to all YLC social events, joint membership with our Women’s Leadership Council (WLC), and access to all professional development and volunteer opportunities. Executive members are also eligible to apply for a position on the YLC Executive Committee.

On December 6, the Young Leaders Council's held their inaugural Impact Series event: Generation #Impact: Building Our Community and Ourselves! The interactive panel discussion explored ways that philanthropy can help to not only better the community around us, but also advance our careers and better our lives. 

 

Happy Hour is the Best Hour: Hang with the YLC at 310 Bowery Bar

YLC members and friends kicked back at Happy Hour on November 28 (6:00–8:00 PM) in the East Village.

 

Yoga & Champagne
Sat., November 18 (9:00 AM—10:00 AM) | Anya (49 West 24 Street, 8th Floor)

The positive energies flowed as we came together to align our minds and bodies all while making an impact for our struggling neighbors. We rolled out our mats and got into warrior pose to help United Way of New York City, through programs like ReadNYC, give families living in high-poverty communities the supports they need to become self-sufficient.

 
 

VOLUNTEER: Build Hygiene Kits for ReadNYC Families in Transitional Housing
Wed., November 15 (6:30 PM—7:30 PM) | United Way of New York City (205 E 42nd Street, 13 Floor)

The YLC came together at our United Way of New York City office for an evening of volunteering—impacting some of our City's most-vulnerable neighbors. Volunteers packed hygiene kits for ReadNYC families who are in transitional housing.

 
 
 

Brews & Books
Tues., October 24 (7:30 PM—10:30 PM) | Brooklyn Brewery (79 N. 11th Street)

Crisp brews, a mountain of pizza, and bar games were calling at United Way of New York City’s Young Leaders Council’s annual Brews & Books. Attendees joined our fight for literacy while kicking back with an ice-cold beer and a great group of young professionals! The perfect side to a dinner of champions is the impact tickets to Brews & Books are making on the lives of kids living in some of our City’s struggling communities! 

 

Happy Hour is the Best Hour: Oktoberfest!

Kick back with a group of YLC members and diverse NYC young professionals at Happy Hour on October 11 (6:00–8:00 PM) in the Lower East Side.

 

 

Rise and Shine for IMPACT! Volunteer with the YLC.
Sat., September 30 (8:00 AM—11:30 AM) | Father's Heart Ministries 545 E. 11th Street New York, NY 10009

Join the YLC at Father's Heart Ministries for a morning of volunteering—impacting some of our City's most-vulnerable neighbors.  Volunteers will whisk, fry, and griddle their way through cooking and serving a hot breakfast for hungry New Yorkers, along with distributing beverages, setting tables, kitchen clean-up, and assisting in the food pantry.

 

Wine Down with the YLC
Sat., September 23 (8:15 AM—6:30 PM) | North Fork, Long Island

We’re looking to wine down this September and we hope you’ll join us. Leave your cares in the boroughs and join United Way of New York City’s Young Leaders Council for an exclusive winery tour down Long Island. Seats are limited, so be sure to secure your spot today!
