United Way and IBM have teamed up to bring technology to hundreds of NYC nonprofits.

Outreach, Education, Interaction: United Way Helps Neighborhood Agencies Get Connected

Technology has transformed the way many health and human care agencies operate. Child care centers have children's medical and emergency contact information at a touch of a key, caseworkers can quickly and confidentially update client profiles, food pantries can track inventories and senior centers have databases of volunteers.

Unfortunately, an overwhelming percentage of local nonprofits aren't so technologically advanced. Expense is just one of the many hurdles nonprofits face as they seek to integrate technology into their operations. United Way leads technology outreach to help local nonprofits:

  • Overcome the initial intimidation that new technologies can present
  • Streamline their office procedures to save time and money
  • Integrate technology into their programs to ensure more consistent, quality services
  • Plan long-term solutions rather than short-term fixes
  • Obtain affordable, quality hardware and software
  • Train staff and volunteers to use technology efficiently

United Way of New York City delivers technology assistance through innovative programs such as KidSmart and Teaming for Technology -- both initiatives which are sponsored by IBM. Nationally and locally, IBM helps steward many United Way programs to bring technology to the health and human care sector.
