United Way of New York City recognizes companies that have demonstrated excellence in running their United Way campaigns and celebrates their extraordinary commitment to the community. Every day these corporations and their employees are impacting our community through their generosity, leadership, and participation in community initiatives. KeySpan Corporation is not only the largest distributor of natural gas in the Northeast but is also a large distributor of goodwill. Operating under its brand "Climate is Everything," KeySpan emphasizes improving the 'climate' of the community it serves. This dedication makes KeySpan's partnership with United Way of New York City seem natural. In fact, since 1999, supporting United Way has become a tradition engrained in the KeySpan culture. "We feel very strongly about giving back to the community in which we work and live and the best way to do this is through United Way. I'm very proud of the generous response of our employees," said Tony Nozzillio, Executive Vice President and KeySpan/United Way's 2004-05 Campaign Chair. This enthusiasm and commitment to United Way is evident by KeySpan's 2004-05 campaign results alone. Employees in New York, New Jersey, and New England, combined with a donation from the KeySpan Foundation, contributed over $1.5 million to United Way. This is a significant 12 percent increase from last year! John Caroselli, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer and United Way 2005-06 Campaign Chair explains their success. "One toll that helped buoy participation were raffle prizes donated by KeySpan Executive Leadership. These were additional rewards for completing pledge cards early - and varied from tickets to theatres and sporting events, to weekend getaways at hotels or time-shares to airline tickets for two anywhere in the U.S." In addition to KeySpan's Executive Leadership playing a key role in the success of the campaign, the campaign team's efforts thrived as a result of their tremendous outreach to groups, such as retirees whose contributions rose 50 percent, and union leadership. This participation brought new vibrancy to the campaign. The team also motivated employees through company goal setting. KeySpan is also particularly proactive in the First Day Back-to-School event, a component of United Way of New York City's Community Achievement Project in the Schools (CAPS) program. In 2004, United Way of New York City partnered with the KeySpan Foundation and Learning Leaders to distribute more than 25,000 welcome bags to attending families at over 60 New York City public elementary schools. The bags included school supplies for children as well as information and resources for families to encourage active engagement in their child's education. "KeySpan is especially proud of the generosity of its employees who see the value-add of United Way. Its focus of problem-solving and fiscal responsibility matches KeySpan's firm belief that working together, we can make an impact in our communities toward healthy child development, increasing youth opportunities, sustainable employment and affordable housing," explains Robert B. Catell, KeySpan Chairman and CEO. Congratulations and Special Thanks to:
